BIBLE MEDITATION: ?And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.? Ephesians 5:2

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: We have all been gripped as we?ve witnessed the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. I?ve watched the reaction of people to this horrendous catastrophe. There have been some who have just simply lowered their heads and endured in suffering and confusion. Then, there have been others who have humbled themselves and turned to God with greater faith. But our hearts have been broken as we?ve seen those who have turned to rebellion, anarchy, looting, rape, and murder. It?s terrible when the thin veneer of civilization is scraped away. And, again, my heart has been broken as I?ve seen those who have tried to merchandize misery ? the price gouging, the political finger-pointing, and all of that. And I have been heartbroken as those who have blasphemed and literally cursed God. But I?ve been blessed by the enormous outpouring of love, sacrifice, and personal help which shows the other side of human nature. The church needs to remember that we?re the ones who have the answer ? the message of hope and love found in Jesus Christ. This can be the Church?s finest hour.

ACTION POINT: While some may seek to gain from othersí misfortunes, we as Christians should seek to share one another?s burden and lighten their load. Let the love of Jesus shine through you during these dark times. Find a way to reach out and meet the needs of those who are hurting ? physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
