Work Together for Christmas Evangelism

"Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others." Romans 12:4-5 (NLT)

As we approach Christmas, let's revisit the biblical truth that we are each created to perform a special role within a larger body of believers.

The Apostle Paul emphasized our interdependence with each other by comparing the church to a human body. He says each of us represents various parts of the body: Some serve as a hand, some as an eye – all are meant to serve in some capacity to make the body complete, with Christ as the Head.

This picture of the body ruins any argument that the Christian life can be lived in isolation, or that your mission on earth can be carried out independent of other believers. God created you to live and grow within a community of Christian companions.

Your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences (S.H.A.P.E.) help you see the role you're meant to fulfill within the body of Christ. I see this in my two sons: one is an introvert who excels at math, science, and serving others without being asked; the other is an extrovert, quick with a joke, a song, and an invitation to join his joyful dance.

Based on God's design, which one do you think is more likely to be an administrator within the body, and which one a worship leader? Both are necessary, vitally important members of the body of Christ – and so are you!

What now?

· Interdependent Evangelism – We all agree that the Christmas season is the best time to carry others to Jesus. But you don't have to do it alone. Work together with other Christians to have dinners, gatherings, and parties with the objective of telling your neighbors and friends about Jesus.

· Watching God's Design – As you work within a group at church, look for the different S.H.A.P.E.s and how people fit into God's design. In your group Bible study, take a few minutes to talk about each other's S.H.A.P.E. What gives you energy? What excites you? What do you like to do? What are you good at? How can you use your gifts to serve Christ this Christmasí
