Creo que la mejor forma de describir “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Prophet, Martyr, Spy” es: hermosamente escrito, altamente informativo, excelente contenido, que deja muy pocos detalles al aire. Hacia tiempo que no leía una biografía, principalmente porque no estaba dispuesto a leer 400 páginas sobre alguien en las que 300 eran de información innecesaria, usando 5 o 6 capítulos a detalles irrelevantes de su niñez. Tengo que decir que no pasa lo mismo en esta biografía que Eric Metaxas escribe de este profeta alemán: desde el primer capítulo encuentras excelente información de su background familiar, ofreciendo los cimientos para él que sería luego un martir de la iglesia. No solo eso, sino que describe vividamente las bases históricas que provocaron que fuese llevado a prisión en medio de una Alemania en tumulto, y donde la iglesia fue también afectada y hasta cierto punto contaminada.
Bonhoeffer, hasta ese momento, no sabía que al predicar de Jeremías y describirlo como: «…. (un) seguidor viene a ser de burla, despreciado y tomado por tonto, pero un tonto que es extremadamente peligroso para la paz y el confort de la gente, así que él o ella debe ser golpeado, encerrado, torturado, o asesinarlo de inmediato… porque no podría alejarse de Dios.» Estaba hablando de si mismo y prediciendo su futuro. Para mi, que soy amante de la literatura teológica de Dietrich Bonhoeffer, esta biografía es tanto útil para aquellos que tienen años conociéndolo o leyéndolo como para aquellos que quieren tener una idea (que resultará bastante profunda al leer el libro) de quién era este hombre.
Ojala este libro sea puesto pronto en español.

The best way to describe “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Prophet, Martyr, Spy” is: beautifully written, highly informative, excellent content, and leaves so little details unresolved. It’s been a long time since I last read a biography, mostly because I didn´t find it worthy of my time to read 400 pages about someone, in which 300 were full of unnecessary information; for example, with 5 or 6 chapters of irrelevant information about the person’s childhood years. I have to say that it is not the case with Eric Metaxas’ biography about this German prophet. Beginning with the first chapter, you´ll find excellent information about his family background, building the foundation for his future martyrdom for Christ.
Bonhoeffer preached and described Jeremiah as “[a] follower becomes a laughingstock, scorned and taken for a fool, but a fool who is extremely dangerous to people´s pece and comfort, so that he or she must be beaten, locked up, tortured, if not put to death right away… because he could not get away from God.” Nonetheless, little did Bonhoeffer know that he was also talking about himself and predicting his own future. For me, a real fan of the theological thoughts of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, this biography is useful for any group, whether those who have been reading and knowing Bonhoeffer for years, as well as those who just wish to have an idea of who this man was (and I will venture to say that this idea will be greatly deepened at the end of this reading).
