BIBLE MEDITATION: ?Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.? 2 Corinthians 1:22
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: God has given us the ?earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.? What does that mean? When a man in Jesusí day intended to buy something he couldn?t afford to purchase at that moment, he would put down ?earnestá money. The greater the down-payment, the greater the indication that the full payment will be made. For instance, if a person was selling their home for $1,000 and a prospective buyer gave him earnest money of $5, the owner would probably not look for that person again. But, if that person gave $500 in earnest money, he means business and the owner would know he was coming back. In today?s terminology, we would say that God has given us a down payment of the Spirit. Do you think that God is going to forfeit His Holy Spirit? No. God is not going to forsake you because He has too much invested in you.
ACTION POINT: Praise God that your salvation was paid in full when Jesus died on the cross. Praise God that He has sealed you for all eternity in the atoning blood of His Son. Praise God that you are not alone, but that His Spirit dwells within you to sanctify you.
